The Business of Herbalism

The Healing Power of Plants. Doesn’t that sound soothing? It does to me.

Botanical medicine, the art and science of collecting, preparing, and utilizing plants for healing, is one of the oldest healing methods in human history. The World Health Organization estimates that 80 percent of the world’s population presently uses herbal medicine for some aspect of primary healthcare. So why in the world are we here in the Western world depending upon big pharma for our healing? Because we have all bought into the BRAINWASHING of the media and big pharma. Do you pay attention to the ads on tv? Heck, the side efects of the “cure” sound far more dangerous than the disease itself!!

Herbalism is a traditional medicinal or folk medicine practice based on the use of plants and plant extracts. Herbalism is also known as botanical medicinemedical herbalismherbal medicineherbologyherblore, and phytotherapy. The scope of herbal medicine is sometimes extended to include fungal and bee products, as well as mineralsshells and certain animal parts.(Wikipedia)

Here at Namaste Healing Center’s Urban Farm we harvest our Organic herbs (EVERYTHING is organic at our place) at their peak perfection. Our  extraction process NEVER involves harsh chemicals and solvents.

I think it is important to be informed. I don’t want to be an ostrich living on my mountain, digging a hole and putting my head in, but I can only take in so much information, otherwise I start to believe I can’t do anything. That’s what I see. I see so many people who have bought into the fear, forgetting how powerful we are. We’re forgetting that we actually are transformers, that we can change this.”  Rosemary Gladstar

Herbalists are transformers, working in their communities to create locally based systems of healing using the plants and resources from their area. Herbal medicine, backyard medicine, kitchen medicine, whatever you choose to call it, is the basic knowledge everyone once needed about how to care for themselves and their families using the plants, food, herbs and spices they used daily. This is the kind of care and knowledge we hope to promote. If this takes off as I think it will Namaste Healing Center will create an herbal CSA to include offering medicinal herb shares.
